Daneika Lovell was warmly welcomed to Jane Franklin Hall this year and after finding her people, she hasn’t looked back.

Daneika completed year 12 at Newstead College in Launceston and made the move to Hobart to study a Bachelor of ICT, majoring in Game Design at the University of Tasmania.

Daneika said she wanted to find somewhere to live that would provide the support needed when moving out of home for the first time.

“This has been my first year at Jane and I can say that I am absolutely loving it," Danieka said.

“Last year I had no idea what I was going to study or where I was going to live, but after a little bit of research I discovered Jane and it has been incredible.

“There’s an amazing community here and I have made some fast friends which has been wonderful.”

One thing that impressed Daneika when she arrived was the vibrant culture at Jane.

“I was interested in Jane for the community, but before coming here I didn’t realise how big the culture was going to be,” Daneika said.

“If you are a social person I would definitely recommend Jane. It has been so easy to make friends and there are plenty of people to turn to if you need support.

“You can really find your people.”

Daneika said her advice to those looking at accommodation is to consider all the options to find the best fit for you.

“Not one size fits all. You need to explore your options and find your group or people. That’s what I did with Jane and I know it is where I am meant to be.”

Jane runs a range of activities, which are great for socialising, meeting new people and getting involved in the College community.

One activity that Daneika has enjoyed in her first semester is a weekly dance class organised by a fellow Jane student.

“We learn a choreographed dance routine and then perform and film it for ourselves,” Daneika said.

“It is a lot of fun. So far, we have done Chicago, ghost busters and a ballet.”

Daneika is also the lucky recipient of a Jane Community Scholarship.

The scholarship, worth $30,000 over three years will support her fees at Jane.

“Being awarded the Jane Franklin Hall Community Scholarship was an amazing opportunity and has made my transition to Jane less stressful because it really helped easy any financial burden that comes with moving out of home,” Daneika said.

“Jane offers a lot of different scholarships, and I highly recommend anyone thinking of moving to Jane applying for as many as they are eligible for, because won't know what will happen.”
