  Ms Joanna Rosewell

  Principal/CEO

  BA BA (Hons); RSA/UCLES CTEFLA; PGradDip.App.Ling.(TESOL); MJ; Cert.Fundraising; MAICD

  An alumna of Jane, Joanna is well placed to know the ins and outs of life in a residential college. Joanna started off doing a BA/LLB degree but decided she’d be a terrible lawyer so moved into English language teaching to foreigners, working in Australia and overseas. An avid learner and reader, Joanna moved into her second career in public relations, marketing and business development before taking on the role of Principal. Joanna says that working at Jane is the best job she has ever had, even on a bad day, and is passionate about supporting students to achieve their life goals. Other staff at Jane describe her as a “true believer” in the collegiate model because her commitment to Jane and its students is unsurpassed. In her spare time, Joanna is a total homebody but can be enticed out for a delicious dining experience or to spend time with her family.

  Ms Sarah Hopkins

  Dean of Students

  BHMS; GradDipEd

  Sarah has been the Dean of Students at Jane since 2021. She is first, and foremost, a mother to her son Will, and some might say has helped her to bring patience, empathy and compassion to the role as the unofficial 'college mum'. Sarah coordinates college, supports and works with the wonderful team of Senior Residents to ensure no student goes unnoticed in Jane’s community. She is here for the students in good times and bad, joining them on the sidelines to cheer on our sporting teams, swapping footy tips in the dining hall and keeping a nice, warm office space for those much-needed chats. She is a self-confessed cricket and footy (AFL) tragic, with a love for badminton, the beach, travel, trying foreign cuisines, and Eurovision.

  Dr Nick Brodie

  Dean of Academic Studies

  PhD, BA(Hons); Grad. Cert. Archaeology; Cert. Philosophy & Theology

  Nick loves dinosaurs, Transformers, and Lego. He's also a real academic who's got a PhD in history as well as degrees in Archaeology and Theology, so he knows how to study. He's published several books and loads of peer-reviewed articles, so he gets how research works. And he worked as a tutor and lecturer for a decade, so he understands how the university works. Basically, he's here to help you find your feet at uni and beyond, as well as being someone in your corner if study gets challenging.

  Nick loves dinosaurs, Transformers, and Lego. He's also a real academic who's got a PhD in history as well as degrees in Archaeology and Theology, so he knows how to study.   Mrs Libby Hopkins

  Registrar

  Known as the most stylish woman at Jane, Libby is the first point of contact when applying to Jane. She manages to reassure incoming residents and parents alike with her calm and kind advice. Libby has been at Jane for over 20 years, welcoming over 1000 students to the College in that time. Always busy, Libby relaxes by spending time with her grandson, gardening, going out with friends and barracking for Essendon. A new pastime is getting out on the river in her partner’s new boat.

  Accountant

  A passionate aurora hunter, Trammie is known for her forensic approach to managing everything accounting at Jane. With her friendly smile and can-do attitude no task is too small or too overwhelming for her, from handling student printing to producing mind-boggling excel spreadsheets. Trammie’s garden, packed full of flowers and veggies, is her weekend joy. As a bonus, Trammie also speaks Vietnamese.

  Ms Gaye French

  Advancement Manager

  BCom (Environmental Business Management)

  Gaye French holds a Bachelor of Commerce, majoring in Environmental Business Management. She has been working in the not-for-profit sector since 2004 and now focuses on raising funds to support the College. Gaye was one of the original members of Hobart’s first roller derby team, Convict City Rollers, but decided to hang up her skates to avoid a permanent injury! One of her favourite experiences was spending six weeks volunteering at Camp Leakey in Indonesia, a release site for ex-captive and rehabilitated orangutans.

  Gaye French holds a Bachelor of Commerce, majoring in Environmental Business Management.   Phoebe helps share the stories, people, and moments that make Jane such a vibrant place to live. With over 15 years’ experience in communications and media, mostly in higher education, she brings a creative eye, strategic thinking, and a genuine love of storytelling to everything she does. She’s often seen with a camera in hand, capturing moments that bring Jane’s story to life. Outside of work, Phoebe enjoys time with her young family—going bushwalking, camping, or spending time at the beach. A self-confessed theatre nerd and Broadway superfan, she also loves immersing herself in a great show or cast album whenever she gets the chance.

  Mr David Bromfield

  Operations Manager

  After nine years in the army, David returned to Tasmania and transitioned into business improvement and management roles in both the public and private sectors, including a decade at the Royal Hobart Hospital. Over the past five years, he has focused on project work in construction and business improvement. David’s passions are experimenting in the kitchen and cooking for friends and family, Tasmanian landscape photography, visiting the Eight Wonders of the World (Angkor Wat is number eight), spending too much money on his daughter and grandkids. He also contributes significant time to doing things that make others' lives better in Tasmania. He played high-level hockey for 35 years and loves watching the Kookaburras and Hockeyroos play.
